Effloresce Meditation Steps |

| 1. | Sit upright in a straight-back chair with your feet flat on the floor, or sit cross-legged on a meditation cushion. It is always best to use the same chair and cushion, and if possible, in a private space reserved for your meditation. |
| 2. | Consciously breathe long, slow, deep breaths for a few minutes to center and calm you, or chant the HÜM in a soft deep voice for this purpose, or combine the two. |
| 3. | As you are consciously breathing and/or chanting the HÜM be aware of yourself looking out from your eyes. Who is looking out of your eyes? Your true self, your divinity looks out of your eyes. |
| 4. | Relax your gaze, looking down towards the tip of your nose without losing consciousness of the ‘looker’ seeing out of your eyes. Being conscious in this way means you are aware that you are aware. |
| 5. | As thoughts and mental imagery arise, allow them to pass without grasping or absorbing yourself in them. |
| 6. |
Now, undisturbed, like a
leaf swaying in the breeze, or a stick perfectly balanced on a single
finger, allow yourself the feeling of being suspended
in empty space.
It is from here that true meditation develops. |
